In late 19th Century figurine of Gods and Goddess started to be manufactured in Germany and other places. These were sold in Calcutta even in outlets such as Cooke and Kelvy. Sächsische Porzellanmanufaktur Dresden, Saxon Porcelain Manufactory in Dresden, often known in English simply as Dresden Porcelain, is a porcelain factory in Freital near Dresden, Germany, which was founded in 1872 and still keeps alive the long tradition of European porcelain art. Since 1902, Dresden Porcelain has a blue "SP Dresden" registered trademark. However, Dresden porcelain refers more to an artistic movement than a particular porcelain company. In fact, several competing ceramic studios emerged under the Dresden umbrella, particularly in the Saxony capital in response to the rise of demand for such figurine during the 19th century. Dresden was an important centre for the artistic, cultural and intellectual movement, and it attracted painters, sculptors, poets, philosophers and porcelain decorators alike. It was the precision creation of the porcelain factories that were responsible for Dresden Porcelain being so well known all over the world.
